17-year-old singer-songwriter Charlie Hewlett is based in North Devon and has previously been featured twice in Flare Magazine with both a review and an interview! Having grown up immersed in the outdoors since he was young, a lot of Charlie’s inspiration comes from nature; however, he also writes songs and creates music based around mental health with the goal of his music becoming an escape - something I think he achieved well!
Charlie has recently released a brand-new trio of songs which are now available to stream on all major streaming platforms. The trio is titled Like We Know and features three tracks; Breathtaking Tension, Where Do We Go Next? and Closure. Released on July 6th, the trio brings something entirely new to Charlie’s sound, showing just how much talent he possesses! The Like We Know trio follows the release of Charlie’s latest EP, Breathe Deep, which is definitely worth checking out if you haven't heard it already!
Breathtaking Tension starts the trio off in a seriously energetic way. The lively and upbeat track changes in rhythm several times but none of these changes feels out of place and instead make the track instantly recognisable and link it back well to Charlie’s previous music. I can see Breathtaking Tension being a hit at festivals in the summer and can’t wait to see the live reaction to it! It has the energy, the pauses, the passion, and everything else it needs to be a huge success!
Next up is Where Do We Go Next? which has a much more stripped-back feeling to it. The track manages to be completely different to the previous one but follows on from it incredibly well. This is a song that should definitely be in your chill playlists, it’s acoustic sound and slower but still contagious energy really make it impossible to sit still and listen to the track. Where Do We Go Next? gives off slightly cinematic vibes too, I can see this being used in a film and fitting perfectly alongside visuals - that’s a sound you don’t hear often in singles!
The third and final track is called Closure and sits somewhere between the first two tracks in energy. It’s definitely a song that leaves you wanting to hear more which clearly makes it a great choice to bring the trio to an end. The pace changes in this track too which is quickly becoming a signature of Charlie’s music. With the energy that increases the more the song goes on, it becomes impossible to not bop along to Closure and the catchy melody is sure to be going around in our heads for a while!
