Dirty Old Town | Guerilla State

Updated: Apr 2, 2023

Belfast/Melbourne-based rock group Guerilla State have previously featured four times in Flare Magazine with their debut single Never Taking Me, debut EP Autonomy: Part One and two more amazing singles. The band is made up of two members, Rory Robinson, and Michael Dalton, and through music, “Guerilla State embodies a fearless form of expression in an age of artistic suppression, a philosophy of autonomy.”

Today marks the release of something completely different that we haven't seen from Guerilla State before - the release of a cover! Dirty Old Town is now available to listen to on major streaming platforms and provides a new side to the Irish classic! Guerilla State has “adopted a different approach to this song, one that we haven't heard anyone do before” and it definitely pays off!

Vocals feature far more heavily in this single than they have in previous Guerilla State tracks which shows off an entirely new side of their talent. Their cover of Dirty Old Town still retains the links to it being an Irish classic, while also having a modern and alternative spin on it. It’s definitely catchy and will definitely be going around in my head for a while after this!

The single really shows off the vocal talent of both members as well as their ability to make a song their own. Guerilla State has managed to keep the track close to its original feeling whilst still adding that recognisable Guerilla State sound to it. It’s completely different to their previous material yet still manages to fit alongside the rest of their music well!

Each aspect of the track is well-mixed and has a clear purpose. None of the different elements is competing with each other which really helps in creating an overall incredibly strong single! With strong lead and backing vocals, Dirty Old Town really shows off how well their voices fit together and makes the song a pleasure to listen to!

If you haven't already, check out the single now and Give Guerilla State a follow on social media to make sure you don't miss out on anything, trust me you don’t want to! Give Flare Magazine a follow on social media too to keep up with the new music coming out across the UK and get in touch if you’re releasing something new!
